A poem from a relatively new member........

O Newark Golf Club! Newark is my type of course
Should have put my name down sooner, I still sigh with remorse
A club to die for, ten minutes from town
O silly me, I've been such a clown
What rounds I have played there, with Gary and Wayne
Also Kevin, Jim and John without pain

I know of no fairways greener or so lush
With woods full of wildlife under every bush
A picture postcard on every fairway to view
Early in a morning, or late evening greets you
The spring heather to admire, or the autumn leaves to see
So many pheasants and squirrels around, they all fascinate me

Shouts of eye on the ball, and follow the club through
Now air shots have gone, and my ball out of bounds are few
But I still hear the crack, and rattle of my ball with a tree
Getting my handicap down now fills me with glee
Punching the air, when I par a hole from the rough
A birdie for me, is still possible but tough

Wednesday evenings we wager one pound, just playing nine holes
At times we come wondering in, looking like lost souls
But approaching the eighteenth green, we all start to hurry
As from the clubhouse kitchen we can smell, Phil's curry
Hand on heart, I solute the flag if it's at half-mast
Flown in tribute and respect, for a member past

What's this! A phone call to me, from a Mr. David Collingwood
Do I still want to be a member, you bet I would
Oh, if accepted will I fit in, and make my mark
Now, is there room for me in the member's car park?
Retirement now, is long walks down along the pleasant fairways
With new golf trolley, and a set of Ping golf clubs to spend my days
