Ladies' Welcome

It is an honour to be asked to stand as Newark Golf Club Ladies Captain 2022/23. In these ever changing times, I shall endeavour to help the Ladies Section move forward, whilst upholding the more valued traditions.

My congratulations go to Mr Michael Carman on becoming The Club Captain this year and I look forward to our matches together and wish him all the best in the season ahead.

I have been attempting to master this wonderful game of golf for nearly 40 years. Beginning at Harrogate GC and thereafter at Hallamshire GC, Sheffield. For the past 14 years I have been a member here at Newark, where I have gained many new friends throughout club. I enjoy all formats of the game from the friendly, team and mixed events, to the more competitive individual rounds.

The Newark Golf Club Ladies Section are a friendly group of mixed golfing abilities and we enjoy a wide range of weekly competitions throughout the year. We have reserved tee times for our competitions on Tuesdays and weekend alternate day times available for many of these. Many of The Club competitions (often at weekends) are open to ladies.

As well as holding qualifying rounds for some of the National Events, we hold our own "Special Days" and also have a couple of friendly team games with our Gents Seniors Section each year, which are popular social occasions.

We are proud to enter teams in the Notts County Competitions. These include the Ladies Silver League, Ladies and Mixed Interclub.

There are also regular Ladies and Mixed Friendly matches against other clubs at home and away. These are well supported enjoyable events.

The Newark GC Ladies Section extends a warm welcome to any new ladies wishing to come and join us, either as "young beginners" or "seasoned golfers". The golf course although relatively flat, presents a fair challenge for all abilities, and is well maintained thanks to the work of Alex Clarricotes and his greenstaff. The friendly coaching team, led by Jasen Barker in the Golf Shop, are also on hand to help with any improvements to your game.

My charity this year is the NSPCC and I know the Ladies Section will be supportive in any fund raising events that we hold.

With the help of my Vice Captain Gillian Coupland, Ladies President Sue Burns, along with a capable and willing committee, we are all set for a good year ahead.

I wish all the Ladies an enjoyable and successful golf year in 2023.
